Background
The adoption of World Health Assembly’s resolution WHA73.4 established a global mandate for integrated people-centred eye care (IPEC). IPEC promotes the importance of a continuum of health interventions, from eye health promotion through to vision rehabilitation. Globally, an estimated 60 million adults require vision rehabilitation to maintain independence and workforce participation, yet the majority – particularly those living in low- and middle-income countries – lack access to these services.
Despite the availability of effective interventions, barriers such as limited trained personnel, weak infrastructure, financial constraints, and poor integration into national health policies continue to hinder access. To address this significant unmet need, the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed the Planning guide for integrated vision rehabilitation which provides practical guidance to support WHO Member States in establishing or strengthening vision rehabilitation services. Moving beyond fragmented, stand-alone projects, the guide offers a strategic three-step roadmap to integrate these services into national health and eye care systems. This approach ensures long-term sustainability and aligns directly with the core principles of IPEC and universal health coverage.
About the webinar
WHO, invites you to the webinar "Planning guide for integrated vision rehabilitation: a deep dive into the WHO guidance". The webinar will be held virtually, via Zoom, on 29 September 2026, 13:00 – 13:45 (CET). During the 45-minute webinar, participants will:
