In 2026, postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) remains a leading cause of maternal mortality globally, underscoring the urgent need for sustained action across all levels of healthcare systems.
One year after the publication and landmark launch of the WHO-FIGO-ICM Consolidated guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of PPH at the XXV FIGO World Congress in Cape Town, this World PPH Day webinar will convene global experts to reflect on progress, share implementation experiences and accelerate action to reduce the burden of PPH worldwide.
Led by FIGO in collaboration with HRP (the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), this session will examine how countries, professional societies, healthcare providers and partners are translating evidence into practice. Speakers will provide updates on progress against the Roadmap to Combat Postpartum Haemorrhage between 2023 and 2030, highlight the new implementation guide published earlier this year and share lessons learned from implementing the guidelines across diverse health system contexts.
Drawing on the perspectives of leaders from international organisations, the frontlines of obstetrics and midwifery, and national ministries of health, presentations will showcase real-world implementation experiences and outcomes, spotlighting successes, challenges and transferable strategies for improving PPH prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Following an audience Q&A, this webinar will conclude with a renewed call to action for FIGO's member societies and partners to advocate for the review and adaptation of the guidelines at the national level, support the implementation and uptake of updated PPH guidance, strengthen healthcare workforce capabilities and foster collaboration across disciplines and sectors to drive collective action in the fight against PPH.
