WHO/Europe is organizing a subregional training for the Western Balkans on data visualization, Microsoft Power BI and large language model (LLM) prompt engineering from 14 to 18 September in Skopje, North Macedonia.
The training aims to strengthen participants’ practical skills in data visualization and dashboard development, increasing the uptake and use of health data for policy-making. It will also introduce the principles of AI prompt engineering to support the safe, effective and ethical use of LLMs within health systems.
Participants will learn how to translate complex health data into clear, actionable insights that can inform decision-making at national and subnational levels. The focus on the Western Balkans will facilitate peer learning and knowledge exchange among countries with similar contexts, capacities and challenges.
Agenda
The training will combine lectures, guided discussions and hands-on practical exercises. Participants will:
- learn the core principles of data visualization;
- work with the WHO European Health Information Gateway;
- develop interactive dashboards and automated reports using Microsoft Power BI;
- explore AI prompt engineering concepts and develop effective queries and prompts for analytical tasks; and
- consider ethical and governance principles for the use of AI in health.
Practical exercises will use health-related datasets to ensure relevance to participants’ day-to-day work. By the end of the training, participants are expected to have strengthened their capacity to communicate health data more effectively, support evidence-informed policy-making and responsibly use AI tools within their respective health systems.
The Second European Programme of Work 2026–2030 emphasizes the critical role of data, digital technologies and AI in delivering better care and building stronger, more resilient health systems in the WHO European Region.
